Although I love exploring new spots, when I get hooked on a restaurant you can be sure I am one of their best clients. Avra Madison is my new obsession. It is an upscale, large and modern restaurant serving Greek seafood. The space is gorgeous, with warm lighting and plenty of room to enjoy a meal.
To start with they bring lightly oiled pita chips with hummus dip, and olives to the table. While nibbling these delicious bread pieces you can make your food choice. I love everything but my favorites to start with are the Saganaki which is Kefalograviera cheese lightly fried with lemon and oregano,and the Tuna Tartar with soy-ginger dressing, avocado with crispy shallots. I also love something that is not on the menu, you should always ask for it: Lavraki Ceviche seabass with Uzo. Now that’s to die for. My friends love the avra chips which are the traditional crispy zucchini and eggplant chips with tzatziki. If you cannot digest garlic like me, I advise you to stay away from the tzatziki.
As a main course I love my Lavraki just the way they prepare it, light and lemony with a touch of extra virgin olive oil. That’s my choice, but you have a plethora of fresh fish bar to pick from and the restaurant will cook it exactly the way you want. Nobody can say they haven’t found their happiness when dining at Avra Madison.
The service is great, always with a big smile. If your table is not ready, you can chill at the bar which is always packed. What I like about Avra Madison is that clients gets dressed to come and eat, which is rare nowadays as people don’t make an effort anymore.
Located between 5th avenue and Madison, right across from Barney’s, this restaurant has everything I look for. Whether I go for lunch or for dinner, I always eat well and have a great time.
